Presidency welcomes Slovenia’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine

RAMALLAH, Thursday, May 30, 2024 (WAFA) – The Presidency today welcomed the Slovenian government’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine as an independent and sovereign state.

The Presidency hailed the Slovenian government’s decision as a brave and wise step that shows the friendly relations between the two peoples and countries, and demonstrates the Slovenian government and people’s keen interest in supporting the Palestinian people and their inalienable and legitimate rights to their homeland as well as their right to self-determination.

It stressed that Slovenia’s wise decision constitutes the benign contribution of a state that believes in the two-state solution as a strategic option based on the international will and legitimacy (UN resolutions) that contributes not only to salvaging the two-state solution that is being systematically and deliberately destroyed, but also to realizing security, peace and stability for all.

It urged states worldwide, particularly the European states, that have not recognized the State of Palestine to do so based on the UN resolutions and the 1967 borders, whereby it comprises the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and to follow the suit of Spain, Ireland, Norway and Slovenia that have chosen the path of peace, stability and the consolidation of UN resolutions and international law.

It extended Palestine’s gratitude to brotherly and friendly states and peoples that have made it possible to reach this stage, including the Foreign Ministerial Committee of Arabic and Islamic Countries.
