President Abbas meets Kuwait premier in Manama, discusses latest developments

MANAMA, Thursday, May 16, 2024 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas met today with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Ahmad Al Abdullah Al Sabah on the sidelines of the 33rd Arab League Summit held at Al-Sakhir Palace in Manama, Bahrain.

During the meeting, President Abbas briefed the Kuwaiti Prime Minister on the latest developments in Palestine, particularly the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip. He highlighted the continuous efforts to end the Israeli genocidal war waged against the Palestinian people, halt the invasion of Rafah, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian and medical aid to the besieged region.

He reiterated Palestine’s firm rejection of any forced displacement of Palestinian citizens, whether in Gaza or the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. President Abbas warned of the severe implications of the Israeli invasion of Rafah, the ongoing closure of border crossings, and the prevention of aid entry, which he said exacerbates the humanitarian crisis. He stressed the importance of the return of displaced people to their homes.

The President also addressed the alarming escalation of Israeli violations in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the ongoing crimes of terrorist settlers, as well as the attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites, particularly in Jerusalem.

President Abbas reaffirmed Palestine's commitment to pursuing full membership in the United Nations, emphasizing the need for additional recognitions of the State of Palestine by countries that have not yet done so.
