RAMALLAH, Saturday, May 4, 2024 (WAFA) – A recent visit by a lawyer from the Palestinian Prisoners' Affairs Authority to Ramla Prison in Israel has unveiled disturbing practices against Palestinian detainees.

The lawyer's findings confirm that not only are general sanctions imposed on these detainees by Israeli authorities, but sick individuals are subjected to additional unethical and inhumane treatment.

In a statement today, the Authority emphasized that the prison authorities exploit the illnesses and injuries of the detainees to place them in a dangerous and complex daily environment, posing a real threat to their lives.

It's emphasized that since October 7 of last year, all measures imposed by the Israeli occupation have been indiscriminately applied to the sick. This includes egregious actions such as blindfolding sick prisoners and handcuffing them during lawyer or family visits, disregarding their right to health privacy. Consequently, many sick detainees are opting out of legal consultations and medical treatment.

Further exacerbating the situation, the Ramla Prison administration has ceased physiotherapy for injured prisoners and discontinued provision of special dietary needs for patients suffering from stomach and digestive diseases.

Additionally, the public phone, used for communication with family members, was confiscated. All rooms for sick detainees have been turned into cells, lacking the minimum medical and treatment facilities.

The Authority revealed that the vast majority of sick detainees from the Gaza Strip who are currently imprisoned in the so-called Ramla Prison Hospital have been subjected to torture by the occupation authorities.
