CAIRO, Monday, April 22, 2024 (WAFA) - The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission said today that Palestinian detainees in the Israeli occupation's Rimon Prison are subjected to severe violations and retaliatory punishments.
The Commission, in a report, relied on the testimony of its lawyer following a visit he made yesterday to Rimon Prison, where he met with one of the detainees who was identified by the initial H.S.
According to the lawyer, the detainee was severely beaten by members of the Nahshon intervention and conveyance unit after he was transferred from the cells of Ofer Prison to Rimon Prison, causing him bruises throughout his body.
The Commission indicated that the detainee told the lawyer that the prison conditions have severely deteriorated since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on October 7, 2023, confirming that the cells lack minimum living standards and that detainees live under vindictive and aggravating conditions.
He added that the Israeli prison services allow detainees to go out into the prison yards for their usual daily break for only an hour and in most cases they are deprived of going out, adding that detainees have also been deprived of adequate treatment and are only provided with painkillers, which were also extremely difficult to get.
The detainee told the lawyer that electricity was cut off throughout the day except when standing in line for the daily head count, adding that cells are deprived of the minimum standards for Hygiene, which led to the infestation of insects and the outbreak of skin diseases among detainees.
The detainee also complained about the poor quality and insufficient amounts of food.
The Commission noted that what was told by the detainee was just a small part of the total punitive measures imposed on the detainees in all prisons for more than seven months by the IPS, which acts out of revenge to increase their psychological and physical torture.
