Presidency urges clarification on alleged agreement for Israeli offensive in Rafah in exchange for limited strike on Iran

RAMALLAH, Thursday, April 18, 2024 (WAFA) – Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, has called on the US administration to clarify its position regarding media reports alleging its approval of an Israeli military offensive in the city of Rafah in exchange for allowing a limited Israeli attack on Iran.

Abu Rudeineh stated that allowing an incursion into Rafah, where the majority of Gaza's displaced population resides due to the ongoing Israeli war of genocide, would lead to a humanitarian catastrophe and potentially force further displacement.

He noted that “the US withdrawal from previous positions, including its declared support for a two-state solution, commitment to international legitimacy resolutions, and its efforts in the UN Security Council to prevent Palestine from obtaining full membership in the United Nations, coupled with its aggressive smear campaign against UNRWA, are pushing towards more tension and escalation, for which everyone will pay the price.”

The Presidential spokesperson reiterated the demand for immediate US intervention to halt the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, holding the US administration responsible for pushing the region towards a regional war by continuing to support the Israeli occupation.
