PPS: Israel has detained 66 male and female Palestinian journalists since October 7th

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, April 03, 2024 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) said that the Israeli occupation army has detained 66 male and female journalists since the start of its aggression against the Gaza Strip on October 7.

PPS confirmed that a total of 45 journalists are still held in occupation jails.

PPS said, in a statement, that the number of detained female journalists has risen to four, the most recent of which was the detention of 32-year-old journalist Asma Noah Harish after breaking into her home in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah.

It also pointed out that this escalation comes within the framework of the large-scale detention campaigns carried out by the occupation army against Palestinians, including the detention of women which has escalated significantly and included female journalists.

Israeli occupation forces further rounded up three female journalists; one of whom was placed under administrative detention.

PPS confirmed that 23 journalists were placed under administrative detention under the pretext of “secret files,” including the two journalists; Ikhlas Sawalha and Bushra Al-Taweel, while the majority of them were charged with alleged incitement on social media sites.

It confirmed that the majority of detained journalists were subjected to severe beatings and torture, as were all those detained after October 7, adding that journalists today are facing all forms of unprecedented retaliatory measures imposed by the prison administration against them.

A total of 140 journalists have been killed in the Gaza Strip after October 7, PPS added.

PPS renewed its demand for international human rights institutions to assume their responsibilities in light of the continuing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
