Israel releases two medical doctors arrested from Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis

GAZA, Friday, February 16, 2024 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported today that Israeli occupation forces released this morning two of its medical doctors, Dr. Jamal Ayad and Dr. Nadez Qerm, who had been arrested last week from the Al-Amal Hospital, affiliated with the society in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza.

The Red Crescent stated that the Israeli occupation arrested doctors Ayad and Qerm a week ago during a raid on the hospital. Twelve members of the society's staff, including seven from Al-Amal Hospital, remain in Israeli detention.

Meantime, the Red Crescent stated that Israeli tanks targeted the second floor of the hospital with an artillery strike, causing severe damage to two nursing rooms. There were no casualties among the staff or patients. The society pointed out that Israeli tanks have been stationed at the hospital gates for two weeks, preventing the entry of any aid or logistical supplies.

Last Friday, Israeli occupation forces stormed the hospital, arresting nine members of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, including four doctors, along with four wounded individuals and five patient companions. Some equipment, furniture, and belongings were further destroyed by soldiers.

Israeli forces also confiscated funds from the society, employees, patients, and their companions, along with personal belongings. They also seized computers and wireless communication devices used by the staff, according to the society.

The Palestinian Red Crescent renewed its call to the international community to pressure the Israeli occupation authorities to immediately release and protect its staff working in the Gaza Strip.
