RAMALLAH, Tuesday, November 14, 2023 (WAFA) – The Prisoners’ Commission and the Prisoner’s Society accused the Israel Prison Service (IPS) of assassinating a Palestinian detainee and hiding information about his death.
They said that Abdul Rahman Mirie, 33, from Qarawat Bani Hassan village, northwest of the northern West Bank city of Salfit, died yesterday in Megiddo prison and that the IPS kept his death a secret until today.
They described Mirie’s death as “premeditated assassination,” adding, “It wasn’t enough that the occupation authorities have assassinated him, they refused to announce his identity since yesterday.”
With Mirie’s death, a total of five Palestinian prisoners have died in prison since October 7, including one from the Gaza Strip who remains anonymous, said the groups.
Mirie was detained on February 25. He is married and a father to four children. His brother, Mohammad, was previously killed by Israeli forces.
The Prisoner’s Society said last Thursday that according to the testimony of one of the prisoners recently released from Megiddo, the Palestinian prisoners there are tortured, both physically and verbally, as well as deprived of the necessities of life, and are dragged on the floor and severely beaten.
