JERUSALEM, Saturday, October 28, 2023 (WAFA) – The Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem today forced three Palestinian siblings residents of the occupied east section of the city to self-demolish their own homes in Beit Hanina neighborhood or face heavy fees and fines if the demolition is carried out by the municipality staff, according to Salah Nassar Husseini, owner of one of the homes.
He told WAFA that 18 people live in the three houses, which means they will all be displaced.
He said they were forced to demolish their houses, each about 70 square meters in area and which were built five years ago, on their own to avoid the high cost and fees that will be imposed by the municipality if its staff carried out the demolition.
The municipality claimed the houses were built without a permit.
