RAMALLAH, Friday, October 20, 2023 (WAFA) – Nabil Abu Rudeineh, the official spokesperson for President Mahmoud Abbas, said today that the President Mahmoud Abbas traveled to Cairo today for meetings with a large number of world leaders.
The President is carrying with him the message of the Palestinian people, calling for an end to the Israeli aggression, preventing forced displacement, and ensuring the rapid delivery of medical and relief supplies to the war-torn Gaza Strip.
Abu Rudeineh emphasized that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) is the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, adding that “anyone who wishes to speak on behalf of the Palestinian people must adhere to the message and the national constants [of Palestine].”
The spokesperson added that during his visit to Cairo, President Abbas is expected “to present the Palestinian stance in its entirety to change the stereotypes that the U.S. administration and Israel have tried to impose on the Palestinian people. The Palestinian people are defending their rights, fighting to preserve Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip.”
In response to Israel's escalation of its crimes in Gaza and the West Bank, Abu Rudeineh emphasized that Israel is launching a war against the Palestinian people wherever they are. He said the President has warned long ago in messages sent to world leaders, including the U.S. administration, that if Israel’s human rights abuses continue, they will lead to an explosion that will affect the entire region.
He affirmed the commitment of President Abbas and the Palestinian leadership to the principles of the Palestinian cause and the pursuit of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders, adding that “either there is peace for everyone, or there is no peace for anyone.”
Abu Rudeineh pointed out that the Palestine issue is the only cause on which there is regional and international consensus. He made reference to the massive rallies being organized right now around the world in support of the Palestinian people.
Concerning the aggression in the West Bank under the global focus on the events in Gaza, Abu Rudeineh stated that the actions of Israel are meant to provoke and show contempt for the Arab nation, the world, human sentiments, and international law.
“Israel remains a state outside the law, breaking international law and human rights by launching horrific crimes and attacking civilians. Currently, the world is witnessing dreadful crimes against the people in Gaza, targeting civilians and preventing medical and relief supplies from reaching innocent citizens who are merely defending their land,” he said.
Abu Rudeineh reaffirmed that peace will not pass except through Palestine, Jerusalem, and the PLO's leadership, emphasizing that “the Palestinian cause is about land and statehood, not just humanitarian relief. It is a sacred cause and the central issue for Arabs.”
