ICRC warns of a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza without much needed electricity

GENEVA, Thursday, October 12, 2023 (WAFA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) warned today that hospitals across the Gaza Strip could turn into “morgues” without electricity in the wake of Israel’s relentless aggression and all-out siege on the territory.

“As Gaza loses power, hospitals lose power, putting newborns in incubators and elderly patients on oxygen at risk,” Fabrizio Carboni, ICRC regional director for the Near and Middle East, said in a statement. “Without electricity, hospitals risk turning into morgues.”

Earlier this week, Israeli WAR Minister Yoav Gallant ordered a “complete siege” on the Gaza Strip, stopping the supply of food, electricity and water to the territory that was already running low on several resources.

The sole power plant in Gaza has officially run out of fuel and subsequently shut down, sending the territory into a full blackout.

The World Health Organization said earlier this week that Gaza’s medical supply has been exhausted following days of Israeli aggression.
