NEW YORK, Wednesday, September 20, 2023 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas met yesterday in New York with his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
President Abbas briefed da Silva on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories in light of the continued Israeli escalation against the people, land, and Islamic and Christian holy places.
The two leaders also discussed regional and international issues of common interest, as well as bilateral relations between Palestine and Brazil, and ways to strengthen and develop them in all fields.
President Abbas thanked the Brazilian President for his support for the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on their national soil.
For his part, the Brazilian President affirmed his country's position in support of the Palestinian people's right to freedom and the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, and continued coordination to enhance the existing friendship and cooperation relations between the two countries.
