BUCHAREST, Monday, July 18, 2022 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas arrived today in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, for a two-day state visit.
President Abbas was received by a number of senior Romania officials, Arab ambassadors, and the staff of the Palestinian embassy in Romania.
During the visit, President Abbas will meet with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Nicolae Ionel Ciucă, and will discuss political developments in the region as well as bilateral relations between the two countries.
Upon his arrival, President Abbas headed to the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier where he laid a wreath of flowers.
After laying the wreath, President Abbas wrote a memo in the guest register at the monument of the Unknown Soldier.
"At the beginning of my visit to Romania, I made sure to lay a wreath at the monument of the Unknown Soldier in appreciation and respect for the sons and daughters of the friendly Romanian people who fell while defending their country, the dignity of their homeland, its independence and national sovereignty throughout Romania's ancient history, so that the banner of their homeland would remain high and so that the Romanian people would live proudly in the land of their forefathers," President Abbas wrote.
"On this occasion," the President wrote, "we affirm our pride in our relations, friendship and cooperation between the two countries and peoples who have a close and historical friendship, wishing Romania and its friendly people further progress and prosperity."
"Long live the Romanian-Palestinian friendship. Long live Romania and long live Palestine," President Abbas concluded.
