RAMALLAH, October 11, 2011 (WAFA) – Israeli soldiers Tuesday broke with force a peaceful protest held in front of Ofer prison, west of Ramallah, in solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, according to witnesses.
They said that soldiers fired tear gas bombs and stun grenades at the protesters causing several cases of suffocation.
The protesters called for the release of the prisoners and to treat them as war prisoners. They chanted slogans supporting a hunger strike the prisoners have been observing for two weeks demanding an end to solitary confinement.
The Palestine LIberation Organization called for a two-hour general strike in the West Bank Wednesday morning in solidarity with the striking prisoners.
