BOGOTA, October 11, 2011 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Tuesday met the Colombian Foreign Minister, Maria Angela Holguin, during his three-day visit to the Latin American country.
Abbas' visit aims to convince Colombia to vote in favor of the Palestinian application for United Nations membership. Colombia is a nonpermanent member of the UN Security Council.
Abbas and Holguin discussed the Palestinian application for full UN statehood membership to the Security Council, the bilateral relations between Palestine and Colombia and recent developments in the Middle East.
Colombia is the third stop in Abbas’ Latin American tour, following El Salvador and the Dominican Republic, to rally support for the Palestinian UN statehood application.
The municipality of Bogota gave Abbas the title of “Honorary Citizen” and the keys to the city.
