RAMALLAH, October 10, 2011 (WAFA) - A delegation of officials from the Palestinian National Authority Prime Minister’s Office, the Palestinian Civil Police and Palestinian Ministry of Women’s Affairs visited Brussels recently and met with EU officials, EU Member States, and the European Parliament to discuss the achievements in the security sector in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Monday said an EUPOL COPPS press release.
Facilitated by International Security Information Service (ISIS) Europe in collaboration with the Human Rights Policy and Guidelines Unit of the External Action Service of the EU and EUPOL COPPS Police Gender Advisor, the visit highlighted cooperation and achievements for stability and security in Palestine.
In particular, the delegation presented a historical precedent and achievement. Instigated by the Chief of Police, Mj. Gen. Hazem Atallah, the Palestinian Civilian Police are setting a global foot print in the international security sector by assigning the first Police Gender Advisor in the region and Arab world.
Major Wafaa Suleiman was appointed as Head of the Gender Unit in May 2011. She states that “I feel privileged to be assigned for this task and I’m ready for mission.”
With full support of the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, they emphasized that “We embrace this initiative. It shows that we move forward in the field of gender in the security sector.”
