RAMALLAH, Sunday, February 24, 2019 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Sunday issue on President Mahmoud Abbas’ participation in the First Arab-European Summit in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.
Al-Ayyam said the President will confirm during the summit his commitment to a two-state solution of Palestine and Israel and the negotiation process as a means to end the conflict.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Minister of Foreign Affairs, Riyad al-Maliki, as saying that “the First Arab-European Summit will reaffirm the centrality of the Palestinian cause”.
It also quoted PLO Secretary General, Saeb Erekat, who said, “The President will confirm on behalf of 13 million Palestinians that no security, no stability and no peace in the region without ending the [Israeli] occupation”.
Al-Quds said President Abbas delivered a letter to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, about the latest developments and Israeli government cuts from Palestinian tax revenues.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said Yousef al-Dayeh, 15, who was shot dead by Israeli soldiers yesterday during the Gaza March of Return border protests, was laid to rest today in Gaza City on Saturday.
Al-Ayyam said hundreds of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip took to the streets on Saturday evening in support of President Abbas.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Jewish settlers attacked with stones on Saturday evening a private Palestinian vehicle near the village of Huwwara, to the south of Nablus in the occupied West Bank.
Al-Quds said Prime Minister of the caretaker Palestinian government, Rami Hamdallah, launched a number of health projects and chaired a meeting of security officials in Nablus, north of the West Bank.
