HEBRON, Saturday, February 23, 2019 (WAFA) – An Israeli settler assaulted on Saturday the treasurer of Hebron Rehabilitation Committee (HRC), Husam Abuhadid, while he was walking in the old town quarter of Hebron, south of the occupied West Bank.
Abuhadid told WAFA that an extremist settler physically and verbally attacked him in full sight of Israeli soldiers while he was walking in the area. He sustained bruises and severe headache as a result of the attack.
Tawfiq Jahshan, the legal counsel of HRC, said he filed a complaint with Israeli police against the attack on the committee’s treasurer.
Some 800 hardcore settlers live in the Israeli-controlled section of Hebron, known as H2, among over 20,000 Palestinians.
Harassment of Palestinians in that area is a daily occurrence, particularly following the departure of the international monitoring team, the Temporary International Presence in Hebron (TIPH), earlier this month after Israel refused to extend the team‘s mandate.
