Newspaper Review: Prime Minister’s statements focus of dailies

 

RAMALLAH, Sunday, February 17, 2019 (WAFA) – Statements by Prime Minister of the caretaker Palestinian government, Rami Hamdallah, during a visit to Bethlehem, south of the West Bank, were the main focus of the Palestinian Arabic dailies on Sunday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that Hamdallah said during an official tour of a stone-cutting factory in Bethlehem that Palestinians’ priorities are not negotiable and their rights are not for sale.

Al-Quds said that the Israeli authorities are planning to construct 2000 new housing units on lands in Qalqilya nd Salfit districts of the occupied West Bank.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds said the Palestinian presidency strongly condemned on Saturday the terrorist attack against an Egyptian army convoy in Sinai, which resulted in the killing and injury of 15 Egyptian troops.

The papers said that President Mahmoud Abbas met with Ali Salam, the mayor of Nazareth, and stressed the importance of communication with the Palestinians citizens of Israel.

Al-Ayyam and al-Quds said the Israeli Cabinet is set to discuss the potential deductions off the tax revenues it collects on behalf of the Palestinian Authority.

According to al-Ayyam, dozens of Palestinians were injured during clashes with Israeli forces to the east of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Quds said that Israeli settlers stabbed a Palestinian citizen near Bethlehem.

Al-Ayyam said dozens of people demonstrated against the expulsion of the Sabbagh family from its home in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem for the benefit of Israeli settlers.
