RAMALLAH, October 21, 2026 (WAFA) — Medical sources in Gaza have warned that dwindling supplies of oil needed to operate hospital generators threaten to disrupt electricity supplies to critical departments providing life-saving care.
The sources said the shortage also risks accelerating mechanical wear and tear on generators, which are already operating under challenging technical and engineering conditions, with prolonged operating hours and continuous maintenance requirements.
Hospitals require more than 2,500 liters of generator oil each month, the sources said, warning that emergency supplies of limited quantities are insufficient to keep the generators running for any sustained period, particularly as continuous operation drives up oil consumption.
The sources called for urgent intervention to ensure the entry of the necessary oils and spare parts, maintain the uninterrupted operation of hospital generators, and prevent power outages in departments providing life-saving medical services.
