CAIRO, October 6, 2026 (WAFA) – The Arab League on Tuesday condemned the demolition by Israeli occupation authorities, with the participation of Jewish supremacist Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, of a residential building comprising 10 apartments in the Al-Tur neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem, and the displacement of its Palestinian residents.
The Arab League General Secretariat said that the demolition of the building and the displacement of Palestinian families constitute a violation of the rights of Palestinian residents and their property, and come within the context of an ongoing policy aimed at curbing the Palestinian presence in occupied East Jerusalem through home demolitions and measures that lead to the displacement of its residents.
It stressed that the demolition of Palestinian homes cannot be justified on administrative or planning grounds, and that Israel, as the occupying power, is obligated to respect the provisions of international humanitarian law and protect the civilian population and their property, including Article 53 of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, which prohibits the destruction of property in occupied Territory.
It said that the participation of Minister Ben-Gvir in the demolition operation reflects the level of official responsibility for such practices, and called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council (UNSC), to assume its responsibilities and work to halt home demolitions and forced displacement in occupied East Jerusalem, and to provide protection for Palestinian residents and their property.
It reiterated that East Jerusalem is part of the Palestinian Territory occupied since 1967 and is the capital of the State of Palestine, stressing that all measures aimed at changing its legal, historical and demographic status are null and void under international legitimacy resolutions, foremost among them UNSC Resolution 478 of 1980.
It also reaffirmed its support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land and their inalienable national rights, foremost among them their right to self-determination and to establish their independent, sovereign state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
