JERUSALEM, October 6, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces demolished a residential building today, Tuesday, in the town of Al-Tur in occupied Jerusalem, after storming the area with several military vehicles and surrounding the building.
The Jerusalem Governorate media office reported that the demolished building consisted of five floors and housed ten residential apartments.
It added that occupation authorities had issued a final demolition notice to the residents yesterday, following years of pursuing them with demolition notices and imposing exorbitant fines and financial penalties, while simultaneously refusing to grant them building permits.
The demolition operation is part of an ongoing escalation of the policy of demolishing Palestinian homes and structures in occupied Jerusalem.
According to the Jerusalem Governorate’s report for the third quarter of 2026, occupation authorities carried out 139 demolition and leveling operations in the Jerusalem Governorate between July and September. They also issued 150 notices and orders regarding demolition, eviction, and property seizure, including 140 demolition notices and orders.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Israeli authorities have demolished approximately 170 Palestinian structures in East Jerusalem since the beginning of 2026, citing the lack of building permits issued by Israeli occupation authorities—permits that are virtually impossible for Palestinians to obtain. The Office also documented how many affected families have pursued legal avenues over the years—seeking building permits or challenging demolition orders—without success.
In the same context, the United Nations has documented an escalation in demolitions and evictions in East Jerusalem and warned of their impact on the Palestinian presence and the city’s geographic and demographic continuity, while emphasizing that these demolitions and forced evictions raise concerns under international humanitarian law.
