GAZA, October 4, 2026 (WAFA) - Medical sources in the Gaza Strip have warned of a worsening shortage and unprecedented collapse in essential laboratory capacity, which is critical for diagnosing and monitoring thousands of patients across medical departments.
The sources said medical laboratories are facing catastrophic conditions and lack key requirements needed to maintain services, particularly chemical analysis equipment, which is essential to daily medical care.
They noted that 52% of the laboratory system’s total equipment has been destroyed and is completely out of service.
Around 30% of the remaining equipment is also worn out and frequently malfunctioning, while spare parts are completely unavailable, placing the equipment at risk of sudden and total failure at any time.
The sources stressed the urgent need to bring modern laboratory equipment into Gaza as an immediate replacement for what has been destroyed, warning that the continued deterioration of laboratory services is directly undermining medical teams’ ability to diagnose and treat patients.
