RAMALLAH, September 30, 2026 (WAFA) — A group of Israeli colonists raided the Ottoman-era tunnel known as “Al-Kharq,” east of Bal'a town, east of Tulkarm, on Wednesday and performed Jewish prayers inside.

Eyewitnesses told WAFA that the colonists drove their vehicles into the tunnel area, where they performed Jewish prayers and raised Israeli flags.

The Ottoman tunnel is a historic landmark dating to the Ottoman period, specifically the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II (1876–1909). It was built in the early 20th century as part of the Hejaz Railway project to facilitate the movement of pilgrims and travelers from Palestine and the Levant to the Hijaz.

The tunnel is known as “Al-Kharq” because it cuts through the mountain. It has been included on Palestine’s tourism map as one of the country’s notable archaeological sites in need of attention, rehabilitation, and restoration.
