RAMALLAH, September 17, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate renewed its condemnation of the Israeli occupation's escalating campaigns of detentions and targeting of Palestinian journalists, the latest of which was the detention of journalist Alaa Al-Rimawi in Ramallah last night.

In a statement issued today, Thursday, the syndicate denounced the Israeli occupation court's decision to place journalists Muath Ammarneh and Sabri Jabrin, from Bethlehem, under administrative detention for four months, bringing the number of journalists held under administrative detention to 21.

The syndicate also condemned the decision by the Israeli occupation authorities to extend the detention of journalist Naqaa Hamed until September 23.

According to data from the syndicate and detainees' institutions, the number of Palestinian journalists detained by the Israeli occupation has risen to 39, including five female journalists: Farah Abu Ayyash, Bushra Al-Tawil, Islam Amarneh, Natali Abu Diya, and Naqaa Hamed.

The syndicate renewed its call on the international community, the United Nations, international media and human rights organizations, and organizations concerned with press freedom and human rights to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities and take urgent and effective action to pressure the Israeli occupation authorities to immediately release the detained journalists, end the policy of administrative detention and trials over journalistic work, ensure protection for Palestinian journalists and enable them to carry out their work freely and safely, and hold those responsible for ongoing violations against Palestinian journalism and journalists accountable.
