NEW YORK, August 12, 2026 (WAFA) — Activists and supporters of the Palestinian cause held a vigil outside the headquarters of The New York Times in New York City as part of a series of events commemorating Palestinian journalists killed during Israel's war on the Gaza Strip and highlighting the unprecedented risks faced by journalists and media workers covering the war.
Protesters held signs calling for Israel to be held accountable for the targeting of journalists, stressing that holding the vigil outside one of the United States' leading media institutions carries a message to the media about the need to address the killing of Palestinian journalists as an issue concerning press freedom and the protection of media workers.
The demonstration is part of a week-long series of events and actions commemorating Palestinian journalists killed during the war on Gaza, which has seen an unprecedented number of journalists and media workers killed since October 2023.
Through these events, organizers seek to keep the issue of Palestinian journalists in the spotlight among the American public while calling for justice, accountability and greater protection for journalists working in war zones.
