RAMALLAH/TULKARM, Tuesday, August 4, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces raided the home of the head of the Wall and Colonization Resistance Commission, Minister Mo'ayyad Shaaban, in the Dhnaba suburb east of Tulkarm before dawn Tuesday, subjecting him to interrogation and issuing threats over his anti-settlement activities. The Commission condemned the raid, describing it as an attack targeting Palestinian leaders and official institutions.
Shaaban told WAFA that a large Israeli military force stormed his home, conducted an extensive search, ransacked its contents and caused damage to the property before isolating and interrogating him in one room while detaining his family members in another.
He said Israeli soldiers questioned him inside the house and warned him against what they described as "incitement" because of his opposition to Israeli settlement activities. They also warned him against calling for the formation of popular protection committees, threatening to raid his home again and cause further destruction if he continued such activities.
Shaaban added that his two sons remain imprisoned by Israeli authorities. His son Ayham has been detained for three months, while his son Ibrahim has been held for approximately a year and a half without trial.
In a statement, the Wall and Colonization Resistance Commission condemned the raid, describing it as an assault targeting Palestinian national leaders and official institutions.
The Commission said the raid on Shaaban's home and the destruction of its contents constituted a violation of the sanctity of homes and the safety of Palestinian families, reflecting what it described as Israel's continued targeting of Palestinian national leadership and official institutions.
It added that the raid is part of an ongoing campaign against Shaaban and his family, noting that Israeli authorities had previously detained both of his sons and continue to extend their detention arbitrarily. The Commission said the combination of the detentions, the home raid, and the destruction of property forms part of a pattern of intimidation and pressure linked to Shaaban's official role in confronting Israeli settlement expansion, land confiscation and the forced displacement of Palestinians.
The Commission further said that targeting the head of an official Palestinian institution represents an attempt to criminalize Palestinian official work and obstruct efforts to support Palestinians' steadfastness, document Israeli violations and pursue them through legal and political channels. It stressed that such measures would not deter the Commission and its staff from continuing their national and professional responsibilities.
The Commission held Israeli authorities fully responsible for the safety of Shaaban, his family and his detained sons, calling for their immediate release and an end to what it described as arbitrary detention extensions and punitive measures.
It also called on the international community, human rights organizations and the International Committee of the Red Cross to assume their responsibilities by providing protection for the Palestinian people and holding Israeli authorities accountable for what it described as escalating violations.
The Commission emphasized that raids, detentions and property destruction would not silence the Palestinian voice or hinder efforts to confront Israeli annexation and settlement policies, pledging to continue documenting Israeli violations and defending the rights of the Palestinian people and their land.
