Israeli authorities order former Palestinian detainee to pay compensation to ex-Knesset member Yehuda Glick

JERUSALEM, August 2, 2026 (WAFA) — Israeli occupation authorities on Sunday notified former Palestinian detainee Areen Al-Za'anin of a court decision ordering him to pay 300,000 shekels (approximately $88,000) in compensation to former Israeli Knesset member and far-right activist Yehuda Glick, in addition to 80,000 shekels in legal fees.

According to the Jerusalem Governorate, Al-Za'anin was given 20 days to pay the amount and was also informed that his case had been referred to what Israeli authorities call the Immigration Authority.

The governorate said the ruling comes after nearly six years of legal proceedings that included Al-Za'anin's detention and the imposition of bail and financial penalties before the court issued its final compensation order.

The case dates back to 2020, when Glick attended the mourning tent of slain Palestinian youth Eyad al-Hallaq in occupied Jerusalem. Local residents viewed his visit as provocative, as it came only days after al-Hallaq was fatally shot by Israeli forces.
