JERUSALEM, July 26, 2026 (WAFA) — Israeli authorities handed over the body of slain Palestinian Sufian Ahmed Saleh Abu Leil , 46, to his family on Sunday, after holding it since his death on March 27, 2026.
Abu Lail died after succumbing to wounds sustained when he was shot by Israeli forces during a military raid on Qalandiya refugee camp, north of occupied Jerusalem.
Abu Leil's funeral procession took place in occupied Jerusalem before he was laid to rest in Bab al-Sahira cemetery. His family and members of the Palestinian community were present, while Israeli authorities imposed restrictions and measures on the funeral.
Abu Leil died from his injuries sustained during the Israeli raid on Qalandiya camp, part of ongoing military operations in various areas of the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem.
The occupation authorities continue to withhold the bodies of a number of Palestinians killed during such operations, a policy that Palestinians describe as a form of collective punishment against their families.
