Colonists set fire to parts of mosque in Tulkarm village

TULKARM, July 26, 2026 (WAFA) — Israeli colonists set fire to parts of a mosque in the village of Kur, south of Tulkarm, early Sunday after storming the village and spray-painting racist slogans on its walls.

The attack marks the second assault on a place of worship in the same day, following an earlier incident in which Israeli colonists set fire to a mosque under construction in the town of Qusra, south of Nablus.

Eyewitnesses said that fires were started inside the mosque, burning parts of the building and damaging its contents before the colonists left the area. Local residents intervened to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading.

The witnesses added that racist slogans were spray-painted on the mosque’s walls during the attack.

The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs condemned the attack, describing it as a serious crime targeting Islamic holy sites. The ministry said that attacks on mosques and their burning go beyond individual acts and represent a systematic campaign targeting Palestinian presence and religious rights, carried out under Israeli forces’ protection and with their disregard.

The ministry stressed that the assault violates international norms and conventions that guarantee freedom of worship and the protection of holy sites, warning that continued violations could lead to further escalation.

The ministry called on the international community and human rights organizations to take urgent action to stop such attacks and hold those responsible accountable.
