Palestinian man killed by Israeli forces at Shuafat checkpoint, Jerusalem Governorate says

JERUSALEM, July 24, 2026 (WAFA) — The Jerusalem Governorate announced on Friday that the Palestinian man who was shot by Israeli occupation forces the previous night at the Shuafat refugee camp checkpoint, northeast of occupied Jerusalem, has died.

The victim was identified as 47-year-old Khalil Rashad Hamed al-Rashq from Dahiyat al-Salam neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem. Israeli authorities withheld his body.

In a statement, the Jerusalem Governorate said Israeli military checkpoints and inspection points have become “death checkpoints” and systematic tools used by Israeli authorities to restrict Palestinian movement and target their lives through excessive and unlawful use of force and field executions.

The governorate said al-Rashq was married and a father of four daughters and a son. His family said he suffered from epilepsy.

It added that al-Rashq’s killing cannot be separated from the systematic Israeli policy targeting Palestinians in Jerusalem and across the occupied Palestinian territory, reflected in the expanding use of lethal force alongside attacks carried out by Israeli colonists under the protection of occupation forces.

The governorate called on the international community, the United Nations, and relevant human rights bodies to take urgent and practical steps to halt these violations, hold those responsible accountable, and provide international protection for the Palestinian people.
