CAIRO, July 12, 2026 (WAFA) – The League of Arab States called for the immediate formation of an international commission of inquiry into the repeated assaults on imprisoned Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti and urged that those responsible be brought before international justice.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Department, the Arab League also called for an independent and impartial medical visit to Barghouti and his transfer to a hospital outside prison if required by his health condition.
The organization further demanded an end to all forms of torture and inhumane treatment against Palestinian detainees, particularly national leaders, and called for Barghouti's immediate and unconditional release.
The Arab League condemned repeated and systematic assaults against Barghouti, one of the most prominent figures in the Palestinian national movement, and said it continues to monitor ongoing Israeli violations against Palestinian prisoners and detainees held in Israeli prisons.
