Palestinian karate champion Maryam Basharat wins World Karate League gold

RAMALLAH, July 2, 2026 (WAFA) – Palestinian national karate team member and world champion Maryam Amin Basharat claimed the gold medal at the World Karate League event in Poreč, Croatia, after defeating her Serbian opponent 2-0 in the final, adding another international title to her career.

Basharat secured the championship following a strong performance throughout the tournament, highlighted by an emphatic 8-0 victory over a Ukrainian competitor in the semifinals, reinforcing her status among the world's leading karate athletes.

Palestinian Karate Federation President Mohammed al-Bakri praised the achievement, describing it as a historic accomplishment and a source of pride for the Palestinian people. He said the result reflects the progress of Palestinian karate through the continued efforts of athletes, coaches, and the federation.

Al-Bakri also congratulated Basharat, her coach and father Captain Amin Basharat, the national team, and the Palestinian people on the international achievement, expressing hope that she will continue to achieve further success on the global stage.
