RAMALLAH, June 27, 2026 (WAFA) – President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas held a phone call on Saturday with Nabil Fahmy, congratulating him on his appointment as Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.

President Abbas extended his sincere congratulations and wished Fahmy success in carrying out his duties, expressing confidence that the new secretary-general’s wisdom and extensive political and diplomatic experience would help strengthen the League of Arab States' role in serving Arab causes and defending the interests of the Arab nation.

The President also expressed appreciation for the League’s historic role in supporting Arab causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause.

President Abbas commended the League’s steadfast positions and continued support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, expressing his aspiration to continue working and coordinating with the secretary-general in a manner that strengthens joint Arab action and contributes to achieving security, stability, and just peace in the region.

For his part, Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy thanked President Abbas for the fraternal congratulations, affirming his commitment, together with the General Secretariat and member states, to supporting the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people’s rights to freedom and independence.
