RAMALLAH, June 23, 2026 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Religious Endowments and Affairs condemned Israeli attempt to alter the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, following the reported removal of a canopy in the mosque's central courtyard in preparation for a project to install a permanent roof over the area, as a prelude to implementing the dangerous colonial project of roofing the mosque's courtyard.
The Ministry affirmed that this blatant aggression represents the arrogance of the occupation and a flagrant violation of the sanctity of the Ibrahimi Mosque.
It is a desperate attempt to alter its Islamic, historical, and cultural features and impose a new Judaized reality by force of arms, in flagrant violation of all international laws and agreements that protect places of worship and archaeological and religious sites.
The Ministry emphasized that the Ibrahimi Mosque is an exclusively Islamic endowment, including its courtyards, arcades, and walls, and the occupation has no right to interfere in its affairs or alter any part of its urban and historical structure.
The Ministry stressed that this Judaization project falls within the occupation's policy aimed at achieving complete control over the Ibrahimi Mosque and transforming it into a Jewish synagogue, a matter that is categorically rejected.
The Ministry called upon the international community, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and all international human rights organizations to intervene immediately and urgently to curb the arrogance of the occupation and halt this destructive colonial project at once.
The Ministry of Religious Endowments called upon the Palestinian people in Hebron and everywhere else to intensify their visits to and continuous presence at the Ibrahimi Mosque to protect and defend it and thwart the occupation's plans to obliterate its Islamic identity.
