Colonists establish new outpost near Al-Auja, north of Jericho

JERICHO, June 1, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli colonists established a new settlement outpost on Monday near the town of Al-Auja, north of Jericho, according to local sources.

Hassan Mleihat, General Supervisor of the Al-Baidar Organization for the Defense of Bedouin Rights, told WAFA that a large number of colonists brought equipment to the area and carried out land-clearing operations aimed at creating a new colonial presence on Palestinian land.

Mleihat noted that there are already seven pastoral colonial outposts in the Al-Auja area, describing them as among the primary tools used to seize Palestinian land and place pressure on local residents, threatening their continued presence in the Jordan Valley.

Colonial outposts are considered illegal under international law, and Palestinian officials have repeatedly warned that their expansion contributes to the displacement of Palestinian communities and the fragmentation of Palestinian territory.
