NEW YORK, May 19, 2026 (WAFA) – The State of Qatar stressed that recognition of the Nakba is an indispensable foundation for any just, comprehensive, and lasting peaceful solution to the Palestinian question.
This came in a statement delivered by Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, before the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, at the UN headquarters in New York, and published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Qatari representative said: "Recognition of the Nakba is an indispensable foundation for any just, comprehensive, and lasting peaceful solution to the Palestinian question."
The representative also referred to her country's positions and principles regarding the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, and reiterated Qatar's condemnation of illegal Israeli decisions concerning the West Bank, the reclassification of Palestinian land as so-called "Israeli state land," and the acceleration of settlement activity.
Qatar condemned Israel's enactment of a law authorizing the death penalty in the occupied West Bank, as well as restrictions on freedom of worship for Muslims and Christians in occupied Jerusalem.
Regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip, the representative stated that Qatar emphasizes the need for all parties to fully implement the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and to open the crossings to ensure the sustained and unhindered flow of humanitarian aid into the Strip.
The Qatari representative reiterated her country's principled and unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the resilience of the Palestinian people, a position based on international law and the two-state solution.
