Water pumping from Ramallah-area wells temporarily halted due to colonists' attacks

RAMALLAH, January 25, 2026 (WAFA) – Colonists attacked Jerusalem Water Authority crews on Sunday, preventing them from accessing wells to repair damage they had caused to well number 6 in the Ein Samia wells, northeast of Ramallah.

In a statement, the Jerusalem Water Authority said the attack completely halted water pumping, depriving residents of more than 19 communities of their basic right to water.

The Jerusalem Water Authority appealed to international and humanitarian organizations for urgent intervention to allow its crews access to the damaged wells, repair the damage, and resume water pumping without any obstacles.

It also demanded an end to these repeated attacks targeting vital infrastructure, which pose a direct threat to the water security of thousands of residents in the concession area.

It is worth noting that the wells of Ain Samia have been subjected to a series of attacks by colonists in the past period. They are considered one of the most important sources of groundwater in the northeast Ramallah region, and the total production capacity of its wells is estimated at about 12,000 cubic meters per day, representing 17% of the daily quantities supplied by the Jerusalem Governorate Water Authority.
