RAMALLAH, January 19, 2026 (WAFA) – Palestinian prisoners’ institutions reported that the number of Palestinians detainees and prisoners held in Israeli occupation prisons and detention centers has exceeded 9,350 as of early January 2026.
According to the institutions, based on their data and figures released by the Israeli Prison Service, the detainees include 53 women, among them two minors, and approximately 350 children, who are held in Megiddo and Ofer prisons.
The institutions noted that the number of administrative detainees stands at 3,385, while those classified by Israel as “illegal combatants” number 1,237. The figure does not include all Gaza detainees held in Israeli military camps under this category, which also encompasses Arab detainees from Lebanon and Syria.
Prisoners’ institutions highlighted that around 50 percent of all detainees are held without charges, either under administrative detention or under the “illegal combatant” classification used by the occupation.
Administrative detainees alone account for more than 36 percent of the total number of Palestinians in Israeli prisons.
