Report: Israeli army reinforces presence in West Bank to secure new settlements

RAMALLAH, January 10, 2026 (WAFA) –  A report issued by the National Office for the Defense of Land and Resistance to Settlement said that the Israeli army is redeploying its forces and strengthening its intelligence and technological capabilities in the West Bank to provide protection for colonists in newly established settlements.

In its weekly settlement report, the office said that settlement activities accelerated at a record pace over the past year, with plans and construction approved for approximately 28,136 colonial units, the latest of which was the building of 1,033 units in the settlements of Asfar, Yitzhar, and Sanur.

According to the report, Israeli authorities have approved the formal recognition of multiple pastoral outposts, the most serious of which is "Har Bezek" settlement outpost, established on lands belonging to the town of Raba, southeast of Jenin, in a strategic location on Jabal al-Salma, 713 meters above sea level.

Thre report added that the site was transformed from a pastoral outpost into an officially recognized colony in record time, in less than a month, bypassing usual procedures that used to take months, and even years, to complete.

The location overlooks the coastal cities to the west, as far as Haifa, and the Jordan Valley and mountains to the east, turning it from a mere colonial farm into a strategic control point and permanent control over the land and its surroundings.
