CAIRO, December 27, 2025 (WAFA) — The Council of the League of Arab States at the level of permanent representatives is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo on Sunday to discuss the dangers posed by Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as an independent state.
The meeting comes in response to a request by Somalia's permanent representative to the Arab League, as part of joint Arab efforts to confront what the Somali government has described as an unprecedented Israeli step and a blatant violation of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, amid warnings of its repercussions for stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.
The meeting is expected to discuss possible responses to the move, including coordination with regional and international organizations, and to reaffirm the firm Arab position in support of Somalia's unity and territorial integrity, while rejecting any unilateral measures that could undermine regional stability.
