UN's Albanese slams Israel's participation in Eurovision

GEVENA, December 8, 2025 (WAFA) – The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, criticized the decision to allow Israel to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026.

In a post on X last night, Albanese pointed out that Israel has not been expelled from the United Nations, other international forums, UEFA, FIFA, FIBA, or similar cultural events.

She added: "Genocide continues because it has become normalized, and then, as is the case now (with the decision of European countries to boycott the Eurovision Song Contest due to Israel's participation), the accountability process begins with a European boycott."

On Thursday, the Netherlands, Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, and Belgium officially announced their withdrawal from the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in protest against Israel's participation.

In her post, Albanese criticized the Eurovision Song Contest, using an image with the words "Genevivision" written on it, which is reminiscent of the concept of genocide.
