European Commissioner Lahbib calls for unhindered aid flow into Gaza through all crossings, warns of catastrophic winter

RAFAH, November 28, 2025 (WAFA) – European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib on Friday called for the sustained flow of humanitarian aid, food and medicines into the Gaza Strip through all crossings, and urged Israel to allow UN relief agencies to carry out their work without obstruction.

During her visit to the Rafah land crossing, Lahbib said the European Union’s objective is to move swiftly to deliver tons of assistance to Gaza’s residents and help them withstand harsh conditions and the winter season, in preparation for a shift from emergency relief to early recovery and reconstruction.

She expressed appreciation for Egypt’s efforts in supporting the ceasefire and facilitating the dispatch of humanitarian aid.

She added that the purpose of the visit was to examine the mechanisms for the entry of humanitarian assistance destined for Gaza in line with United Nations standards, amid continuing warnings of a worsening humanitarian situation in the Strip, particularly with winter drawing near.

Lahbib pointed out that, according to estimates by international organizations, Gaza’s needs amount to around 600 aid trucks per day, noting that many shipments are being obstructed or turned back despite inspection, which constitutes one of the most significant challenges to ensuring relief reaches the eligible groups inside the Strip.

She stressed that families in Gaza are living on the brink of disaster, warning of a catastrophic winter if Israeli restrictions on aid entry persist. She emphasized the importance of upholding the Gaza ceasefire agreement, respecting international law, and protecting civilians.
