Israel shuts down West Bank's only crossing with Jordan

JERICHO, September 21, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities on Sunday morning abruptly closed the Karama Crossing, the only passenger gateway between the occupied West Bank and Jordan, in both directions, halting all travel for departing and arriving passengers.

According to the Palestinian General Authority for Crossings and Borders, the closure was carried out without prior coordination or warning, disrupting travel plans for thousands of Palestinians.

Earlier in the day, the general authority had announced that the crossing would operate normally. However, shortly after the announcement, the Israeli side unilaterally closed the terminal, offering no explanation for the sudden decision.

The Karama Crossing—also known as the King Hussein Bridge—is the sole international exit point for the vast majority of Palestinians in the West Bank, as they are barred from using Israeli airports. It serves as a vital link for travel, trade, medical treatment, and education abroad.

In recent years, closures of the crossing by the occupation authorities have been common, causing significant delays at times, particularly for those with urgent travel needs.

No timeline has yet been given for the reopening of the crossing.
