Israeli forces raid Al-Aqsa Mosque’s old prayer hall, detain guards

JERUSALEM, June 22, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces stormed the old prayer hall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem shortly after midnight last night, damaging its contents after forcibly breaking into storage cabinets and conducting a violent search of the premises.

According to the Jerusalem Governorate, four mosque guards were detained during the raid. The detainees were identified as Mohammad Arbash, Ramzi Al-Za’anin, Basem Abu Jum’a, and Iyad Odeh. Several other guards and a firefighter present inside the compound were subjected to field interrogations.

This incident marks yet another escalation in a growing pattern of repeated violations by Israeli forces against Al-Aqsa Mosque and its staff. Israeli authorities continue to enforce a policy of daily raids, detentions, and summonses, widely seen as part of broader efforts to assert control over the mosque's administration and undermine the authority of the Islamic Waqf Department in Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation authorities have maintained strict entry restrictions for Muslim worshippers into the mosque for the ninth consecutive day, under the pretext of a "state of emergency" linked to the ongoing war with Iran.
