Abu Rudeineh: Approval of 22 new settlements in West Bank dangerous escalation, challenge to international legitimacy

RAMALLAH, May 27, 2025 (WAFA) - Palestinian Presidential Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh condemned today the Israeli government's secret approval of 22 new settlements in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as a dangerous escalation and a challenge to international legitimacy and international law.

He stated that this action, as reported by Israeli media, is an Israeli effort to perpetuate regional violence and instability.

Abu Rudeineh reiterated that all settlement activity is illegal, emphasizing that this decision violates all international resolutions and laws, specifically UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which deems all settlement activity in Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, illegal and illegitimate under international law.

He affirmed that the extreme right-wing government must stop destabilizing the West Bank and the broader region, attributing this to its "criminal aggression" against the Palestinian people in Gaza and its settlement and aggression in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

Abu Rudeineh called upon the US administration to intervene seriously and immediately to halt this Israeli tampering with the fate of the entire region before it is too late, and to compel Israel to adhere to international law and end its war on all Palestinian territories in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
