Greek Foreign Minister: Humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached devastating levels

ATHENS, May 23, 2025 (WAFA) — Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis stated that the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip has reached catastrophic levels, citing a total lack of aid access for over two months as a primary cause.

Speaking during a session of the United Nations Security Council on Thursday night, Gerapetritis described the situation in Gaza as “unprecedented,” under the weight of relentless Israeli attacks and prolonged suffering of the civilian population.

He emphasized the urgent need to uphold international humanitarian law and to ensure the immediate and unhindered delivery of comprehensive humanitarian assistance, including food, medicine, and basic necessities.

Since March 2, Israeli occupation authorities have enforced a complete blockade on aid entering Gaza, leaving more than 2.4 million residents under a policy of systematic starvation.

Convoys of humanitarian aid remain stranded at border crossings as the crisis deepens. The blockade has pushed the territory into a phase of full-blown famine, resulting in numerous deaths, particularly among children and vulnerable groups.
