 President receives Executive Director of Churches for Middle East Peace

RAMALLAH, April 16, 2025 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas received on Wednesday at the Presidential Headquarters in Ramallah the Executive Director of Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP), Mae Elise Cannon, along with her accompanying delegation.

President Abbas welcomed the visiting delegation, expressing his appreciation for the organization's consistent and supportive stance in pursuit of justice and peace.

President Abbas also expressed his appreciation for the organization's continued support for the rights of the Palestinian people and their just cause, particularly its efforts to strengthen the steadfastness of Christians in the Holy Land.

The President briefed the delegation on the latest political developments and the ongoing violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites, as well as on the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and the crimes of genocide being committed by the occupation against the Palestinian people.

For her part, Rev. Cannon affirmed Churches for Middle East Peace’s commitment to continuing its efforts to achieve peace and justice in the Middle East and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

She pointed to the dangerous escalation that targeted the Arab Baptist Hospital in the Gaza Strip, which housed hundreds of displaced, sick, and injured people.

She stressed the importance of supporting efforts aimed at strengthening the resilience of the Palestinian Christian presence in the Holy Land.

The meeting was attended by Ramzi Khoury, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Chairman of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, and members of the Presidential Committee, Musa Hadid and Amira Hanania.

The delegation's visit comes within the framework of efforts undertaken by CMEP to enhance solidarity with the Palestinian people and support their legitimate and just rights.
