International Red Cross outraged by Israel's killing of Palestinian medics, rescuers in Gaza

GAZA, March 30, 2025 (WAFA) — The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has expressed profound outrage following the killing of eight Palestinian medics, five first responders from the Palestinian Civil Defense, and a United Nations staff member during their emergency duties in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip.

In a statement released on Sunday, the ICRC condemned the attack, emphasizing the vital role these individuals played in providing lifesaving assistance in the midst of ongoing Israeli offensive.

According to the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), the victims were killed in an Israeli airstrike on March 23 while attempting to deliver first aid to those injured by Israeli shelling in the Al-Hashashin area.

The PRCS reported that the bodies of the victims were recovered a week after the strike, confirming the murder of eight medics, five civil defense workers, and one UN staff member. The ICRC expressed its deep sorrow, offering condolences to the victims' families, loved ones, and colleagues.

"We are deeply saddened and mourn alongside their families, loved ones, and colleagues," the ICRC stated. "These staff and volunteers were risking their own lives to provide support to others."

PRCS has urged the international community to fulfill its legal obligations and take concrete steps to prevent further attacks on medical personnel.
