RAMALLAH, February 24, 2025 (WAFA) – A Palestinian detainee from the Gaza Strip Monday died in Israeli custody, according to the Commission of Detainees and Ex-detainees Affairs and the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS).
The Commission and the PPS announced in a joint press release that they were informed by the Israeli occupation forces that Mus'ab Hani Haniyeh, 35, had died in Israeli imprisonment on January 5, 2025.
They pointed out that Haniyeh, a father of a nine-year-old child, was detained from Hamad City on March 3, 2024, and was not suffering any significant health issues before his detention.
They said that Haniyeh’s death brought the total number of detainees who died due to systematic torture in Israeli imprisonment since the onset of the Israeli aggression to 59, including at least 38 detainees from the Gaza Strip, and the number of those who died since 1967 to 296, noting that other detainees could have died for the same reason and their identities were still concealed and that there are scores of detainees from the Gaza Strip who have died in Israeli custody and who are forcefully disappeared.
They slammed the death of Haniyeh as a new crime to be added to the previous list of crimes committed against Palestinian detainees, and the torture and ill-treatment of all detainees as a facet of the Israeli genocidal war.
They voiced concern about the increasingly dangerous upsurge of the death of Palestinian detainees due to the fact that thousands remain held in Israeli imprisonment and subjected to torture, starvation, medical crimes, sexual assaults and deliberately subjected to contagious diseases.
